• Lincoln, the Civil War and Abolition , revisiting Lincoln’s Peoria visits, the Civil War camps and veterans’ final resting spots: June 10, July 2, Aug. 20 and Sept. 16 . • Roots of the River City , providing an overview of Peoria history from its early days as a French fur trading outpost in the late 1600s to today, including many grand residences in historic districts: June 17, July 9 and 29, Aug. 5, Sept. 3 and 23 and Oct. 8 . • Warehouse Renaissance , recalling the once-bustling district and examining ren ovations taking place today: June 4, July 1, Aug. 13 and Sept. 10 . • Notable Peoria Women , honoring two dozen women who impacted Peoria, the United States and the world: June 11, July 15, Aug. 6 and Sept. 2 . • World’s Most Beautiful Drive , exploring the history and homes along Grandview Drive: June 24, July 16, Aug. 19, Sept. 9 and 24 and Oct. 22 . • Historic Springdale Cemetery , visiting the peaceful grounds and experiencing Peoria history through the stories of those buried there: June 25, July 22, Aug. 12 and 26, Sept. 10 and 24 and Oct. 14 . • Haunted Peoria , exploring the darker side of the city, with startling stories, legends, curses and graves: Oct 7, 8, 15, 21, 22, 29 and 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 21, 22, 28 and 29 .

Peoria Historical Society TO OFFER HISTORY TOURS

P eoria Historical Society will offer guided history tours June through October. Bus tours will be from an air-conditioned, 20-passenger shuttle bus. Several walking tours also will be offered. “Participants will receive fascinating, in-depth looks at aspects of Peoria, from its prosperous whiskey distilling days, to the Roaring ‘20s, to historic neighborhoods and businesses, to notable people who shaped the community, andmuch, muchmore,” said tours coordinator Beth Johnson.

SUNDAY, JUNE 5 Pedestrians in Peoria Community Walk – 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Hike to Rocky Glen, the last community walk led by the local celebrities behind Pedestri ans in Peoria, Mary Hosbrough and Jennifer Jacobsen-Wood — they were even featured in the New York Times — as part of our Peo ria Reads program. Meet at 525 N. Kickapoo Creek Road. Most of the hiking is moderate, but the trailhead and a few other ascents are steep. Free and open to all ages. JUNE 19-25 Explore Peoria through Geocaches Peoria Public Library Lakeview Branch, 1137 W. Lake Ave. Learn how to use GPS to play “hide-and seek” with hidden treasures throughout our city. Stop by the Lakeview Branch or go online to find clues to help you discover our geocaches. How many will you find and what hidden parts of Peoria will you find while hunting? All Ages. Free.

From whiskey-soaked tragedies to country-metal ghost stories. Free, all ages concert. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29 Paint Your Own Pottery – 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Peoria Public Library Lakeview Branch, 1137 W. Lake Ave. Join us for an evening of pottery painting. Fired Up! will be at Lakeview Branch helping all ages choose and paint a piece of pottery. Free, but registration required, as space is limited.
