Luminous crystal jellies, anglerfish dangling flashing lures, a cave ceiling draped with glittering glowworms, giant fireflies, radiant fungus and marine plankton emitting “sea sparkle” so bright it can be tracked by satellite, they’re all featured in “Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence,” May 28 through Sept. 5, 2022 at Peoria Riverfront Museum. “Creatures of Light,” created by the American Museum of Natural History, New York, illuminates the worlds of the extraordinary organisms that flash, sparkle and glimmer by generating light, called bioluminescence, exploring how and why they glow, from the deep sea to Midwest backyards. “Creatures of Light” sponsors: PNC, UnityPoint Health, OSF HealthCare and Corporate Visionary Society Council. CASA, Sip Savor Smoke, was met with overwhelming success. The event venue was moved to the Country Club of Peoria to accommodate the larger group of nearly 100 attendees. This event consisted of the pairing of hand-selected spirits with carefully crafted dishes that complemented each other beautifully. The sharing of first-hand experiences of what foster care truly looks like by our volunteers and board members sheds light on the growing need our community has for CASA volunteers.
