Microsoft does not support a downloadable version of Internet Explorer for Mac. Some Walsworth services require the user to download a plugin before accessing the service. On Windows machines, these downloads are usually automatic and may only require the user to click a security warning box to initiate the download. Users should set their Internet Explorer Privacy settings to Medium High or below. Privacy settings above a Medium High level could prevent plug-ins from installing automatically. Mac users typically must manually download required plug-ins and then install them to their systems. Configuring the Download Manager to save to the desktop is probably the easiest way for users to download, locate and install the required plug-ins. Once installed, the user can simply delete the plug-in’s executable file from the desktop. Pop-up blockers Sometimes the services offered over the Internet by Walsworth require the ability to automatically open additional windows or install plug-ins, such as ActiveX files, on the user’s computer. This ability can be limited by the existence of pop-up blockers running on the machine. It is important that users have the ability to either temporarily disable their Internet pop-up blocker, or configure it to allow pop-ups from the Walsworth service they desire to use. Although we do not recommend permanently shutting off or removing pop-up blockers from your computers, yearbook advisers and staffs must have the ability to use them as needed. In some situations, it will be necessary for the network or systems administrator to configure the pop-up blocker because of limitations in user rights and access to their machines. New operating system and security patches are released regularly, and it is impossible for this manual to address all the latest software updates.
