significant figures. The mu- sical showcases Hamilton’s determination to lead the country to freedom against the British during the revo- lution, his personal conflicts with family and politics, and the role he played in building the country’s gov- ernmental system after the Revolutionary War. The show is masterfully done. The music has a mod- ern hip hop feel to it, I know exactly what you’re think- ing: a musical with hip hop music about the Revolution- aryWar? I am sure many oth- er people felt the same way at first. It sounds strange, but in execution, it is truly marvelous and unique. The music guides the audience through Hamilton’s life in such a fun and inventive way that makes the concept of learning about these real life figures more intriguing. Not only is the show en- tertaining, but it also pro- vides legitimate information about Alexander Hamilton and others who played a

large role in the country’s formation. Many people have become familiar with certain historical figures and events because of this show, which is great because it will make those who may have been disinterested at first want to read a book or research more about the topic. I know someone who had no interest in history who saw Hamilton, and re- searched more about him and his affairs in politics and with family. The show pro- vided an interest that wasn’t there before seeing it. That is something truly special. Af- ter you have seen or listened to Hamilton, and you pay attention next time in your history or civics class, you may hear things that you re- member from the music that will benefit your knowledge on the time period and spe- cific events that took place. This will be the case thanks to Hamilton: An American Musical by Lin-Manuel Mi- randa. The show is definitely worth your time. working at North High School, and he appreciates the level of maturity and self-sufficiency that our stu- dents have shown him. He hopes you can look forward to having a lot of hands-on learning experiences and chances to get outside the classroom to learn when in his class. Even though Mr. Welhouse has only worked at North for a short time, he wants to let everyone know that they can ask him any questions and treat him like any other staff member. Feel free to visit Mr. Welhouse with any of your concerns. Mr. Welhouse will probably be sticking around until Feb- ruary and will finish out the semester for Mrs. Delzer’s classes. Be sure to greet Mr. Welhouse if you pass by him in the halls! ence, natural resources, and biology will be covered in his classes. Mr. Welhouse enjoys

There’s a good possibility when you hear the name Niall Horan you instantly think of the early 2010’s boy band, One Di- rection. But with the group on “Hiatus” and each doing proj- ects of their own, Niall is tak- ing the world by storm. With two singles already topping the charts, he continues to impress. His new album that released on October 20, Flicker, is on the course to top charts. This is his time to shine. All 13 tracks are truly pieces of art. The album shows off who Niall is as an individual artist. Showcasing several acoustic ballads such as “You and Me” and “Paper Houses”, each song contains a bit of it’s own unique spark. So how is it? Being a fan of One Direc- tion, I am proud and have not been let down. I have wanted an album with only Niall’s voice on it for so long, and to finally have that is just marvel- ous. I have not stopped listen- Education. It’s a word of importance, but for some it may sound uninteresting. It may be a word that will stress some, and provide positive outlooks for oth- ers. Long lectures in class may come off as boring, and you might be finding yourself checking the clock every now and then wonder- ing: when is this class over? However, if you either lis- ten to, or actually go out of your way to get tickets (it’s almost impossible, but worth a try) to go see Ham- ilton: An American Musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda. You will not be receiving a lecture. You will instead re- ceive an incredible and eye opening experience. North High School is pleased to have Mr. Wel- house join our community of teachers and students. He currently is a long-term sub- stitute teacher and is filling in for Mrs. Delzer, a biol- ogy teacher at North. He was born in Appleton, WI, and attended East High School. Later on, he was able to pro- cure his degree at UWMadi- son. Mr. Welhouse has been involved with teaching for ten years. He has worked for around six years in the Fox Valley area. He has been part of the staff as either a part- time or full-time member at Appleton Central High School, Madison Middle School, East High School, Magellan Middle School, Kaukauna High School, and Beloit Memorial High School. When not working, Mr. Welhouse enjoys being out

ing to Flicker. It is the type of album you listen to with a warm cup of tea while being curled up in a blanket. Niall’s soothing voice filled with heart and soul truly gives a sense of home. On a scale of a five stars I would give it 4.5. I want to give this a high rating however it is everything I expected…Which is good because I was pleased with it since it was something I knew I would like…I wish he had explored his voice and talent a bit more, yet at the same time I didn’t mind hav- ing a sound that was true to his unique style. Considering Flicker was his first solo al-

He got into his career based on his love for helping students make connections with all the concepts that science has to offer. One of his favorite things to teach about is adap- tations and evolution. Units about environmental sci- Mr. Welhouse tends the library desk during sixth hour. Photo by Sarah Fleming
