Program Description Work with physical therapy patients in a hospital, rehabilitation center, school, clinic or other healthcare setting. Under the supervision of a physical therapist, duties include implementing treatment programs, teaching patients to perform exercises and daily living activities, and reporting the patient’s progress. Healthcare Academic and Career Pathway Physical Therapist Assistant ASSOCIATE DEGREE | PROGRAM CODE: 10-524-1 Admission Requirement: High school diploma or equivalent Academic Preparedness Requirements: Before taking core courses, a student must meet the following criteria: • GPA of 2.5 or higher at MATC • Complete BIOSCI-177 (or BIOSCI-201 and BIOSCI-202) with a B- or higher. • Pass the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) with a score of 65% or higher (three lifetime attempts in person). Program Learning Outcomes • Function under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist in a safe, legal, ethical manner consistent with professional standards and values to ensure the safety of patients, self and others. • Demonstrate clear and collaborative communication with patients, families and healthcare team. • Exhibit behaviors and conduct that optimize inclusive, equitable patient care and patient care environments in alignment with physical therapy practice standards. • Produce documentation to support the delivery of physical therapy services. • Demonstrate critical decision-making to implement and modify treatment within a plan of care under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist. • Perform data collection essential for carrying out the plan of care under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist. • Perform technically competent, evidence-informed physical therapy interventions under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist. • Educate patients, families and other health providers, incorporating cultural humility and social determinants of health.
