Using Styles for Consistency
When designing a yearbook, it’s important that your designs remain consistent so the final product is a cohesive piece. That’s where styles come in. If you set up a document properly with paragraph and/or character styles, you’ll eliminate time-consuming mistakes in the future.
YEARBOOK 360 – ONLINE DESIGN Walsworth offers its own platform for spread creation. It’s a great tool that is simple and intuitive.
1. Log into Yearbook 360. 2. Import your fonts. To see our collection of offered fonts, check out our Font Catalog in this year’s Planning Kit. a. At the top navigation bar, click Plan Book . b. Beneath that will be another line of navigable tabs. From there, select Fonts . c. You’ll see font options to the left that you can hover over to preview. I recommend selecting at least two. I’ve picked Hello Monday and Abel . d. Notice the Default Font to the right of the large font boxes. Change this to the font you’d like your body copy to be. I entered mine as Abel at 12 pt . You can change this later if needed. 3. In the Yearbook 360 tab, click on your spread. 4. To begin creating styles, select the Text tool. To the right, you’ll see a Type panel and at the bottom of that panel are our styles. 5. Walsworth offers pre-made styles based on the most common needs of schools. I recommend using those as a starting point. To edit them, hover over one and select Edit . You can create a style by selecting +New . If you’ve already started working on spreads, you can select a text box, and text the properties will pull into the Edit Type Style menu. 6. The Edit Type Style menu allows you to name your style, choose your font, underline and adjust the font size, leading and the color. You can also delete styles from this menu. Save your changes once you are satisfied. 7. To apply your new style, use your Select tool and select a text box. Click the style and it will apply to all of the text box. Limiting your text boxes to one style will allow you to apply styles with a single click, so I recommend having separate text boxes for headers, bylines, body copy, captions, etc.
