CATEGORY: Best Use of Technology
M P Caroll Hardwood | Buffalo, New York
CATEGORY DETAILS: Entries in this category have installed floors utilizing advancements in technology (CNC, laser, etc.). WHAT MAKES THIS FLOOR UNIQUE: M P Caroll Hardwood in Buffalo, New York, has earned the WFOY Best in Technology award through a carefully designed showroom addition, originally a warehouse space. For a wood-floor-only company, the showroom serves a critical purpose, offering a space where clients can view samples wall-to-wall and experience the company’s commitment to quality craftsmanship firsthand, a priority it has long championed. The company collaborated with Czar Floors, known for their expertise in technology-driven design, to create an oval medallion featuring eight wood species, including maple, ash, American cherry, pear, white oak, kempas, merbau, and wenge, set within a compact rectangular area. Czar’s advanced design technology and detailed instructions enabled the team to execute the intricate pattern with precision, seamlessly integrating it with a reverse perspective mitered pattern of clear maple and a prior Czar criss-cross design already in the space.
INSTALLATION METHOD:
The floor arrived unfinished, requiring sanding and the application of three coats of finish with a lambswool applicator to achieve a polished look. This project marks the second time the company’s showroom has been recognized with a WFOY award, following a win in 2014, highlighting its ongoing dedication to excellence. The collaboration with Czar Floors demonstrates how technology can enhance traditional craftsmanship, resulting in a space that effectively showcases the company’s capabilities to clients.
