AVERAGE DRIED WEIGHT 52 lbs/ft 3 (840 kg/m 3 ) SPECIFIC GRAVITY Averages 0.73 (at 12 percent MC) SEASONING/SHRINKAGE VALUE Short Leaf Acacia dries quickly, with risk of distortion during the seasoning process. When going from green (30 percent MC) to oven-dried, it may shrink up to 7.0 percent (tangential) of its given width.

OTHER COMMON NAMES Small-leaf acacia, acacia walnut, Asian walnut, Formosa koa, or acacia petit. APPEARANCE/COLOR The heartwood can be dark to light brown with pinkish-red tones. Sapwood can be whitish-grey to light yellow, and is clearly demarcated. PHOTOSENSITIVITY Low. Slightly darkens with age and exposure to sunlight and oxygen. GRAIN Diffuse-porous. The grain is interlocked, with a moderately fine and uniform texture.

TOXICITY/ALLERGIES Can cause skin or respiratory irritation.

INSTALLATION Minimal effect on blades. No reported issues sawing, planing, routing, or nailing. No issues gluing. SAND/FINISH Sands very easily following the standard grit progression sequence. Accepts stains and finishes very nicely. SUSTAINABILITY Big Leaf Acacia is not listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Appendices and is listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Red List as a species of Least Concern.
