Welcome to Anna, Texas! It will not take you long to figu e out why Anna is an attractive destination for those choosing to live, work, or play in our city. There are so many ways to be a part of the continued transformation! We invite you to grow with us and be part of our story! Whether you are a long-time resident, one of the newest residents, or are visiting and thinking of relocating here, we are happy you are interested in learning more about our city. It’s an exciting time to be part of our beautiful city! Anna is one of the fastest-growing communities in North Texas and with the exploding population we have grown stronger, more resilient, and more innovative. By overcoming obstacles and seizing new opportunities, we, as a business community, have transformed! I am a proud, 4th generation Anna resident. I graduated from Anna High School in 1978 when there were 736 residents in our small town. Since that time, we have added beautiful neighborhoods, parks, and businesses transforming the community and landscape drastically! I had the honor of joining the Chamber as the Executive Director August of 2021. I knew that we were facing an uphill battle coming out of manymonths of thepandemic and the trials and tribulations it caused for our local businesses. You’ve heard the old saying, “things happen when they’re supposed to.” I am living proof of that statement! With most of my career spent in Advertising Sales and having served on the Chamber Board of Directors a few years prior, I knew the potential the Chamber had and I wanted to be part of it. Not to mention the fact that I was going to get to come home, home to my roots and where my heart lies! After all, once a COYOTE, always a COYOTE!

The Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce is in a period of transformation just like the City of Anna. Chambers of Commerce have gone from being “relevant” to being “ESSENTIAL;” and now we must ensure that the Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce remains an essential catalyst to the business community. We invite all businesses whether they are home-based, Mom & Pop’s, national chains, and everything in between, to growth with us! Anna Scholarship Foundation was established in 2001. An initial scholarship of $400 was awarded to a 2002 Anna graduate. Operated by a group of professional individuals who donate their time and talents, the foundation awarded four $1,500 scholarships to 2017 graduates and $21,000 to ten previous graduates. Currently, over 80% of our scholarship recipients either have graduated with their post- secondary degree or they are still working to reach this goal. In 2007, the foundation was granted a full tax exemption by the IRS as a public charity in a 501(c)(3) exempt organization.

What was it like to live in Anna, Texas in the early days, when life was simple? The Anna Depot and Museum is a place where history comes to life; a place where you can experi ence what life was like in that simpler time. The Anna Depot and Museum is operated by the Anna Area Historical Preservation Society (AAHPS). It serves as your source for local his torical preservation and education of our rich heritage. AAHPS was established on February 12, 2004, to encourage the preservation of historical, cultural, ethnic, and artistic places, things, and events in Anna and the surround ing area. AAHPS aspires to carefully research, document and preserve the history of area homes, businesses, churches, cemeteries, and so much more. It is well known that many small towns owe their existence to the advent of the train. This is so true of Anna. The Houston and Texas Central Railroad came through what eventu ally became Anna in 1872. By 1883, twenty families had settled in Anna and, the Depot was built in 1885. For many years, the Depot saw an abundance of Johnson grass and large bales of cotton cross its threshold. Because of the railroad and the depot, Anna had a new spurt of growth; it is the Spark That Ignited the Town of Anna. The railroadclosed thedepot in themid-1950s. For a number of years, it remained abandoned in its original spot on the west side of the track near the downtown crossing. Several years

later, the railroad planned to tear the depot down. However, Lewis “Nip” Roberts, a businessman in Anna, acquired the depot and moved it to his farm a couple miles west of town. As Anna continued to grow, construction of State Highway 75 west of town put the depot in jeop ardy once again. In 2007, AAHPS was given possession of the depot and moved it to a temporary location just west of downtown. Then, on May 18, 2017, the depot was moved to Sherley Heritage Park. Anna Depot is the oldest extant railroad building in the State of Texas, and restoration was com pleted in September 2019. The Depot was then donated to the City of Anna Parks. AAHPS has since established the Anna Depot and Museum. However, Anna Depot and Museum is much more than just a railroad building, it is a local history museum with artifacts from Anna ISD, the first fi e station, and early settler’s homesteads. There is even the Old Anna Diorama which is a scale model of what Anna looked like over a hundred years ago. Anna Depot and Museum is open from 10 am to 2 pm on the second and fourth Saturday each month. Additionally, a members meeting is held on the last Thursday of each month at 1:30 pm in the First Christian Church. Guests are welcome to attend, and membership is open to anyone who wants to join.
