FUELING CURIOSITY SAN JACINTO ELEMENTARY AND EXXONMOBIL BAYTOWN’S DYNAMIC STEM DAY COLLABORATION

On November 9, GCCISD’s San Jacinto Elementary partnered with ExxonMobil Baytown for an engaging day filled with hands-on exploration. This collaboration, aimed at nurturing young minds and fostering a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), featured a series of workshops carefully curated by ExxonMobil experts. ExxonMobil Baytown employees spent their day volunteering at the elementary school teaching students that science and math are fun. Students participated in interactive experiments, demonstrations, and projects that bring STEM concepts to life. These engaging sessions not only enhance students’ understanding of STEM subjects but also highlight their real-world applications. Throughout the day, San Jacinto Elementary students were introduced to the concepts of drones and robots, including the very exciting robot dog that can be used during emergency events. They observed experiments like soda geysers using Altoids and Coke, critical thinking challenges including water balloons, egg cartons,

and marshmallows. ExxonMobil Baytown volunteers assisted students in constructing Lego boats and marble coasters and demonstrated the concepts of buoyancy and weight distribution. By exposing young minds to the excitement of discovery and problem-solving, this partnership sets the stage for a generation of innovative thinkers and problem solvers.
