Blakely Motor Company moved up from the smaller garage to a deluxe building on the west side of Main Street. Even with the floods they were able to continue to manage their operations, including a restau rant that Mrs. Luella Blakely managed in the northeast end of the complex. Luella called the restaurant the El Nopal Café.

The Gilbert Depot was an interesting point, because the other side of the tracks did not have any water. The railroad track acted as a dam. The flooding of the basement of Sam Lee’s Grocery Store caused the wrappers to come off the cans, and for the next year they sold cans of food that were a surprise to the person who opened them.
