Exhibitions Laugh Proud (Quentin Lee) Docu. spotlights nine LGBTQ comics, including Jason Stuart, each of whom performs a short set. Mad About the Boy (Barnaby Thompson) Docu. about Noël Cow ard includes lots of footage of the playwright and his friends, as well as Coward’s own work as a performer. Merchant Ivory (Stephen Soucy) Docu. on the epic partnership fea tures many of their films’ stars and includes a segment on James Ivory’s gayness and its importance in the collaboration. Mysterious Ways (Paul Oremland) Drama centers on a gay couple in the South Pacific, a Vicar and his Samoan partner, whose lives are shaken by a media firestorm. Outstanding (Page Hurwitz) Docu. traces the history of LGBT co medians with a focus on standup, from Paul Lynde’s winking wise cracks to today’s in-your-face queer comics. The Queen of My Dreams (Fawzia Mirza) Drama tells parallel tales of a Pakistani woman and her Canadian-born daughter, who share an obsession with Bollywood fantasy films. The Summer with Carmen (Zacharias Mavroeidis) Greek comedy about two gay friends who are writing a screenplay about a recent summer, but their versions of what happened differ wildly. Dragon Mama One-woman show with Sara Porkalab doing 15 characters and singing her queer mother back to life. At the Williamstown (MA) Theatre Fest., July 2–14. The Boys in the Band The classic drama still packs a wallop as a birthday party gets out of hand and everyone must confront his gay demons. At the Uptown Players Theater in Dallas, Aug. 16–25. Ride the Cyclone Musical finds 5 young friends in Limbo telling their life story, including a gay boy with a tragic past and a starry eyed future. At the NCTC in San Francisco, Sept. 20–Oct. 20. My Son’s a Queer (But What Can You Do?) One-man show stars British actor Rob Madge as he revisits his years as a boy with a vivid imagination. At the Lyceum Theatre in NYC.
