Art Exhibitions Fire Island (Andrew Ahn) Comedy romp stars Margaret Cho and SNL ’s Bowen Yang as they set out with friends to have a legendary weekend on—you guessed it—Fire Island. Firebird (Peeter Rebane) Drama set on a Soviet army base during the Cold War follows a handsome young soldier and his forbidden love affair with a charismatic fighter pilot. Reviewed in this issue . Gemmel & Tim (Michiel Thomas) Docu. recalls the lives of Gem mel Moore and Timothy Dean, two Black gay men who died at the hands of West Hollywood politico Ed Buck. Great Freedom (Sebastian Meise) Drama set in a West German prison where Hans is repeatedly incarcerated under §175, and where he has intense affairs with three men from 1945 to 1969. In from the Side (Matt Carter) Drama centers on two rugby team mates, both married to women, who have a drunken encounter and drift into an affair that, if discovered, could destroy their team. Moonage Daydream (Brett Morgen) Docu. explores David Bowie’s creative, spiritual, and musical journey, featuring never-before-seen footage and performances spanning his career. Parallel Mothers (Pedro Almodóvar) Drama follows two women who share a post-delivery room, launching an intense relationship, at times a sexual one, complicated by a mystery involving their babies. A Sexplanation (Alex Liu) Docu. takes us on the director’s jour ney at age 36 to overcome years of sexual repression, exploring every angle from neuroscience to Jesuit teachings. tick, tick…BOOM ! (Lin-Manuel Miranda) Musical telescopes a fre netic week in the life of playwright Jonathan Larson ( Rent ). Company Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim’s musical turns Bobby into Bobbie in a gender-flipping re-interpretation of the satir ical take on modern life and love. At the Bernard Jacobs Theater. Kinky Boots Musical tells of a straightlaced (sorry) English bloke who teams up with a drag showgirl to save the family shoe factory. At the Humphreys Theater in Dallas, July 15–31. The Little Dog Laughed Comedy about a rising actor who has a male lover on the down low, marries his female agent, then falls for a male hustler. At the Humphreys Theater in Dallas, Aug. 19–28. Aunt Jack Play follows a young man with two dads, one a famous drag performer, who leaves home and returns with a surprising new partner. At the Decker Theatre in San Francisco, Sept. 16–Oct 16. Theater / Dance Requiem for the Norm The work of Chilean–German artist Lorenza Böttner (1959–1994), who lost both arms at age eight but found a way to create art. Queer Britain A new LGBT museum has opened at Kings Cross in London, featuring a wealth of LGBT art and artifacts. Welcome to Queer Britain , its inaugural exhibition, is currently on view. Queercircle London is also home to a second permanent venue for LGBT art, described as “less traditional than a museum.” Located in the Design District in Greenwich, south of the Thames.

Benediction (Terence Davies) Bio-pic follows renowned WWI poet Siegfried Sassoon after his tour of duty as he becomes an anti war activist and embarks on affairs with several men while coming to terms with his sexual orientation.
