Exhibitions Peter Hujar’s Day (Ira Sachs) Docudrama starring Ben Whishaw as Hujar is based on a recently discovered 1974 conversation in which he talks about the NYC art scene and his own photography. Pillion (Harry Lighton) Dark comedy goes inside the queer biker world when a directionless man meets an enigmatic, impossibly handsome dom, who takes him on as his submissive. Plainclothes (Carmen Emmi) Drama centers on an undercover cop assigned to lure and arrest gay men who falls in love with one of his targets, throwing him into moral crisis over duty vs. truth. Sane Inside Insanity: The Phenomenon of Rocky Horror (Andreas Zerr) Docu. chronicles the musical’s unlikely rise through never– before-seen interviews and rare archival footage. Twinless (James Sweeney) Drama follows a gay man who goes to a grief support group after the death of his twin brother, where he meets a straight man with whom he forms an intense bond. Messy White Gays Comedy opens as two men have just murdered the third member of their gay throuple and stuffed the body into a credenza, but they’ve invited friends over for brunch. What to do? At the Duke Theatre in NYC thru Jan. 11th. BLKS Comedy-drama follows three young women who drink, smoke, hang out, and have sex in a play that explores what it means to be a queer Black woman in NYC. At the Outfront Theater in At lanta, Jan. 29–Feb. 14. Le ft Field Premiere of a play set in the future at a time when the U.S. elects its first gay president. At the Rhino Theater in San Fran cisco, Feb. 19–March 15. OurHouse Drama set in Iowa a year before marriage equality finds an older gay couple planning to host the marriage of a nephew and his Black fiancé, but then their neighbors get wind of it. At the Gural Theatre in NYC, Feb. 28–March 21. Straddle Sex comedy about a long-term couple who are celebrat ing yet another anniversary, notice that their lives are getting aw fully routine, and decide to spice things up. At the Diversionary Theater in San Diego thru March 15th. Oh, Mary! A campy take on Lincoln’s last days, as Mary Todd (played by Jane Krakowski) longs to be a cabaret singer while serv ing as Abe’s beard. Ongoing at the Lyceum Theatre in NYC. Theater / Dance David Wojnarowicz: Arthur Rimbaud in New York First exhibited in NYC in 1990, the artist used images of the French poet to depict the breakdown of social order in NYC in the 1970s and ’80s. The History of Sound (Oliver Hermanus) Drama centers on a mu sical prodigy from Kentucky who bonds with a New England lad over a love of American folk music—but then WWI breaks out. Li tt le Trouble Girls (Urska Djukic) Slovenian drama follows an in troverted 16-year-old girl who joins her Catholic school’s all-girl choir and befriends a popular older student.
