Expanding West Medicine

HOUSTON METHODIST WEST HOSPITAL Houston Methodist West, located on I-10 between Greenhouse and Barker Cypress, is currently undergoing a $247 million expansion. The project began in the fall of 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027. This includes $185 million for hospital expansion and $62 million for a Comprehensive Care Center community expansion. The project reflects Houston Methodist’s commitment to meeting the growing health care needs of West Houston, particularly in Katy and surrounding areas— one of Texas’ fastest-growing regions. “We are committed to providing the highest level of care to our community,” says Kyle R. Stanzel, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Houston Methodist West Hospital. “This expansion allows us to better serve our patients with state-of-the-art facilities and comprehensive services, right here in their own backyard.” The hospital’s clinical expansion includes a new

36-bed observation unit, increasing the total bed count to 307. Additional upgrades include: • 4 new state-of-the-art operating rooms • 16 new emergency department rooms • 5 additional neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) beds • A new endoscopy suite • An expanded infusion center with 6 more treatment suites Patients will also benefit from enhanced imaging capabilities, including a new MRI machine, two CT scanners, and upgraded ultrasound technology. To further improve the patient and visitor experience, the hospital is adding a new 24/7 gift shop with grab and-go options, an Einstein Bros. Bagels location, and major upgrades to the existing coffee shop.

As growth continues throughout our community, the hospital has expanded the number of beds and operating rooms at the dedicated pediatric emergency center. The number of operating rooms has increased from 6 to 8, and a minor procedure room has been added. The center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is staffed with board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians, pediatricians, and advanced practice providers. The West Campus is the only Special Isolation Unit for children in Texas and the Southwest region for highly infectious diseases. Texas Children’s Pediatrics continues to offer primary care in five Fulshear-Katy area locations—Katy, Kingsland, Cinco Ranch, Fulshear, and Town & Country. Two urgent care locations are open after hours and on weekends at Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus and Cinco Ranch.
