T he Fulshear Branch Library, a remarkable addition to the Fort Bend County Library system, stands as a testament to the vibrant Fulshear community. This two-story, 41,980-square-foot architectural marvel, now the third-largest library in the system, replaced the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch. Its grand opening on January 13, 2024, marked a significant milestone in the rapid growth of the Fulshear community. The entrance to the library creates an atmosphere of exploration and wonder as it welcomes visitors of all ages with outdoor benches, numerous trees, and an interactive musical garden. As patrons enter, the building is filled with an abundance of natural light that highlights gathering spaces, computer stations, and study spaces interspersed throughout. The library houses 20 public computers, a quiet room available for patrons completing distance education, a copy center with various copiers and printers, and free Wi-Fi for community use. Patrons of all ages and stages can find a wide array of resources that satisfy growing interests and support research. The lower level of the building provides a space for children through middle-school age students to explore printed literature, as well as opportunities to delve into programs that enhance educational experiences, such as educational apps, interactive
technology, and story kits. The upper level of the building provides an elaborate collection of young adult and adult fiction and non-fiction books, magazines, and newspapers. Patrons feel at home amongst study rooms, lounge areas, and a screened outdoor reading terrace. The Fulshear Branch Library provides ample opportunities for community involvement. The branch website provides a calendar of events, and patrons can search by interest and age level. A plethora of special programs for patrons includes book clubs for young adults and adult readers, weekly story times for children of all ages and stages, and classes in crafting, computer resources, and ESL Conversations Circles for English Language Learners. There is even an opportunity for high school students to participate in a Young Adult Advisory Council, where they can take ownership and express ideas for new potential programs such as the library.
