KEMPNER COUGARS The Cougs showed up in the Winter, beginning with yet another strong outing on the court. The boys reached the playoffs for the second straight year, courtesy of Jacob Broussard, who surpassed the 1,000 point mark to lead the offense, alongside seniors Cayden Gibson and Chinedu Achuama. Senior Heaven Ferguson was a bright spot on the girls’ side, who narrowly missed out on the postseason. Both Kempner soccer programs remain competitive in the district. Josue Lopez and David Velazquez are among the stars on the boys’ side, while Cera Moreno, Gabriella Reumont, and Maddy Horne anchor the girls on the pitch. Meanwhile, Vy Ngo and Tammie Ma captained the swim team in 2023. As Kempner heads to the track, coaches look to Kenna Negassa, Elizabeth Ojo, Ellis Sanusi and Elizabeth Werts to rack up the points among the tough district competition. The softball program looks to rally after being one spot removed from the playoff race a year ago. Seniors Kori Vasquez, Adaline Wood and Emma Kuehn should provide the firepower to do so. Thomas Moss and Brian Luna will headline the Cougs on the other side of the diamond, as they look to re-enter the district conversation. Additionally, seniors Nahl Vagher, Ashley Pham, and Mabel Huang look to cap off their high school career with some medals on the golf course.
