SHAPING THE FUTURE: HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE 55TH ANNUAL SCHOOL OF BANKING

F rom August 3-9, the University of Florida’s J. Wayne Reitz Union was alive with energy as over 160 bankers — including 149 students — from across the state gathered for the FBA’s 55th Annual School of Banking. This year’s program again delivered an immersive week of learning, collaboration and hands-on experiences. Beyond the classroom, students built lifelong networks with peers who share their dedication to strengthening Florida’s banking community. Celebrating Our Graduates, Recognizing Excellence A highlight of the week was the graduation ceremony for the Senior Class, marking the culmination of three years of study and professional growth. This year’s prestigious Honor Graduate Award was presented to Matthew Frazier of SouthState Bank. Selected for his outstanding scholastic achievement, active class participation, and overall contribution to the student body, Frazier exemplified the spirit of dedication and leadership that defines the School of Banking.

BankSim Champions One of the School’s most anticipated traditions is the weeklong Bank Simulation (BankSim), where students put their knowledge to the test by managing a virtual bank through real-world scenarios. Of 12 competitive teams, two emerged as champions: Community A Winners — “Maravista Bank:” Vivan Altef, Collin Dietz, Matt Hazelroth, Amirah Mohammad and Amanda Strickler Community B Winners — “Key Bank:” Christina Dickson, Patricia Hamel, Nathanael Miraglia and Stephen Stone The students’ success reflects not only individual talent but also the power of collaboration, strategic thinking and leadership under pressure. Looking Ahead As the week closed, the FBA extended heartfelt thanks to the students, faculty and staff who made the 55th Annual School of Banking an extraordinary experience. Each participant left Gainesville with new skills, deeper industry insight and a strengthened commitment to advancing banking in Florida.
