The Florida Trust School Celebrates Graduating Seniors I n 1959, a group of dedicated trust bankers saw a need for continuing education in the trust banking industry. They combined their expertise with the marketing and administrative strengths of the Florida Bankers Association to create the “Trust Training School.” issues affecting the trust and wealth management industry.

The dedicated industry professionals that make up the 2023 governing board are Darryl Gordon, regulator at the Florida Office of Financial Regulation, Amy Hale, managing director – FL & GA, at BMO Wealth Management, Burns Dobbins, senior VP, Fiduciary Office at Bessemer Trust, and Associate Director Karen McCrae-Lee Fatt, senior VP and senior trust manager at Truist Wealth. The FTS has benefited greatly from these bankers’ leadership over the years. The FBA is appreciative of their efforts and willingness to serve the wealth management industry in this way. Over the years, the governing board of directors has guided the school through many changes to keep it current and to help anticipate the needs of Florida wealth management students. The name was changed to the Florida Trust School (FTS) in 1971. The FTS remains relevant as attested by 2,113 graduating students and continues to offer excellence in education and career training. The FTS is a nationally renowned three-year program encompassing the world of trust and wealth management banking. The establishment, structure, purpose and general activities of a typical trust and wealth management department are discussed.
