DID YOU KNOW THAT October 12 is National Savings Day? This national holiday was initiated in 2017 by Capital One as a day to value the need to save, and reflect on one's personal saving and spending habits. According to American savings statistics, 69 percent of adult Americans have less than $1,000 in a savings account. While the average household savings in America are at $17,135, the median amount in savings is around $3,500. In 2020, however, there was an increase in the personal saving rate, likely due to the lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic prompting Americans to stay in, spend less, and save for hard times. On National Savings Day, think critically about your own personal saving rate and how you might improve your spending and saving habits to secure a sunny financial future.
