movement to save Sanibel Island from overdevelopment began in 1974. The successful incorporation was highly celebrated following a favorable citizens’ vote. The groundbreaking “Sanibel Plan” became a model for cities and Sanibel continues to follow its original purpose to maintain a city where nature comes first. From November 2024 through December 2025, the City of Sanibel and the SanCap Chamber are planning a 13-month celebration in partnership with island businesses, nonprofit and faith-based organizations and resident groups. “Celebrating this major milestone is a testament to the resiliency of Sanibel, its residents and businesses. As the only bank chartered on Sanibel Island, we are thrilled to sponsor the island’s 50th anniversary celebration,” said Kyle DeCicco, president and CEO of Sanibel Captiva Community Bank. “Through this celebration, we all can honor the island’s past, embrace the present and pave the way for a prosperous future for our beloved island.” For more than 60 years, the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce has been dedicated to Myers Chamber of Commerce’s Women in Business Committee, the APEX Awards recognize local women with outstanding reputations for professionalism, philanthropy and leadership. McQuagge joined the bank in 2018 as the organization’s first in-house marketing director and is responsible for providing direction, guidance and leadership of the bank’s marketing and extensive community outreach efforts. She was previously the senior marketing and event manager for the Lee County Economic Development Office, co-owner of a full-service fundraising company and a media buyer for several national and regional advertising agencies. McQuagge has served on the PACE Center for Girls-Lee board of directors since 2020. Currently, she serves as vice chair, board development chair and is a member of the Grande Dames Tea committee. She also serves on PACE’s Every Girl Deserves capital campaign raising funds to repair damage to the center from Hurricane Ian, as well as implement needed safety and security upgrades.
