DID YOU KNOW... that according to the FDIC’s 2 021 National Survey of Unbanked and Underbanked Households , the unbanked rate — 4.5 percent — was the lowest since the survey began in 2009? The “unbanked” refers to households in which no one has a checking or savings account at a bank or credit union. Between 2019 and 2021, the unbanked rate fell 0.9 percentage

points, corresponding to an increase of approximately 1.2 million banked households. As for the reason for not having an account, 21.7 percent of unbanked households indicated they did not have enough money to meet minimum balance requirements. According to the survey, the second most cited main reason for not having an account in 2021 (13.2 percent) was “don’t trust banks,” while “avoiding a bank gives more privacy” was the third-most cited main reason (8.4 percent).
