DID YOU KNOW? DID YOU KNOW... that American founding father Alexander Hamilton laid the foundation for the Federal Reserve? After the Revolutionary War, President George Washington appointed Hamilton as the first Treasury Secretary. Hamilton proposed a plan for a U.S. central bank but faced opposition from Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, who originally believed the idea to be unconstitutional. However, Congress passed the bill in early 1791 that created the nation’s

first central banking system. The First Bank of the United States acted as the federal government’s fiscal agent; the bank had startup capital of $10 million, and the U.S. government was a minority stakeholder. While Congress did not renew the bank’s charter in 1811, Hamilton’s system laid the foundation for central banking in the United States.
