A s the team here at Explore Chattanooga was putting together this summer issue, I had a re-awakening that we really do live in a great city! Folks around the U.S. are beginning to recognize it, too. Several national publications (U.S. News & World Report, Forbes , and Money Magazine ) have recently held reader polls and Chattanooga is consistently rated as a top city to live in or visit, and we have even received the award for “Best Town Ever” two years in a row by Outside Magazine . Of course, we are blessed with natural beauty and wonderful opportunities for outdoor recreation. From bike riding, hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, and rafting to just walking along the Riverwalk or downtown. For the adventurous there is hang gliding, paragliding, and skydiving as well. We also have a vibrant art scene supported well by the community. There is the Hunter Museum of American Art, the River Gallery and the Houston Museum of Glass and Decorative Arts in the Bluff View Art District, several working art studios, a variety of smaller galleries exhibiting some exceptionally talented local and regional artists. The foodie landscape is undergoing a bit of a renaissance, creating a fresh, inventive culinary scene driven by our great local chefs. No matter what type of food or drink you are craving, you are guaranteed to find it here. Our diverse restaurants range from barbecue to Thai and Vietnamese to Chicago style hoagies, Korean steak to Chinese fusion. There are also some wonderful neighborhood bars where the locals are always friendly and inviting. The world-class attractions here are loved and well supported by locals, and not just when the family is in town. All of them are continually improving, adding events, new features and keeping things fresh. As you get out and EXPLORE Chattanooga, we hope you will experience all that makes our city a wonderful place to live. We are delighted to share it with you.
