CHATTANOOGA DAY HIKES Opportunities For All Levels
N ot only one of the country’s preeminent destinations for climbers, Chattanooga is also one of the hiking capitals of the Southeast! With hiking meccas like Lookout Mountain, Signal Mountain, and Racoon Mountain surrounding the city, as well as a variety of hidden gems located off nearly every exit, there’s a trail head everywhere you turn. The good news is that you needn’t pack your tent or fill up a CamelBak water bottle, because most of these hikes can be tackled in a few enjoyable hours! Here are a few spots to check out if you’re looking for a beautiful trek in the Chattanoo ga wilderness this Summer! Craven’s House Trail to Sunset Rock : Located at the site of the Civil War “Battle Above the Clouds,” Craven’s House on the West side of Lookout Mountain marks the trailhead of the Cra ven’s House Loop. This hike will take you for a stint up beautiful
Lookout Mountain to the gorgeous views at Sunset Rock and back again for a roughly 3.4 mile moderate hike. If you want to explore some more of the history surrounding Lookout Mountain, be sure to stop by Point Park and maybe even ride the Incline Railway! Oh, and don’t forget to watch your back for ghosts: Craven’s house is said to be haunted! Stringer’s Ridge : If you don’t have time to get in the car and drive up Lookout Mountain, Stringer’s Ridge on the North Shore offers 7 miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking! The trail is located on the 92 acre Stringer’s Ridge Park, an urban wilderness park hidden in the heart of the city and overlooking the Tennessee River. There are two trailheads, one on Old Bell Avenue and one on Spears Avenue, and either way the trail will bring you to beauti ful overlooks of the city!
