M any of my best summer memories growing up were time in and around the lake, licking the edges of a double dip ice cream, weekend trips to visit new places, and returning with some unusual gift that I would never have purchased at home. Sometimes our trips were to attend an event, but mostly they were to visit relatives or to see some place new. As I think about my childhood summer vacations, I am amazed at the abundance and variety of opportunities to create wonderful memories here in Chattanooga. Whether you are here visiting family, a sports event or tournament, a weekend trip or just passing through, there is so much to explore and experience. Not many cities that are as accessible as Chattanooga can boast the number of world-class attractions and museums to visit, the natural beauty of the mountains, valleys, streams, and rivers to explore, the vibrant restaurant scene to experience, and the variety of local shops and galleries to browse and satisfy. It is why Chattanooga is rated as one of the Top 50 cities in the world. If you like to walk, jog, or explore riding a bike, or e-scooter, the downtown is relatively compact and family-friendly. You can even hop on the free electric shuttle bus and ride from the Southside to the North Shore with stops all along the way.
