Welcome to Chattanooga.
M y favorite season in Chattanooga is Fall. As the heat of August dissipates, we begin to feel the cooler mornings, less humidity and the skies begin to change hue to a brighter blue. The perfect backdrop for the coming colors of autumn. With the change in weather comes an increase in outdoor activity for locals and visitors alike. The city and surrounding areas are animated with festivals andmarkets, sporting events like the IRONMANChattanooga Triathlon, 7 Bridges Marathon, ChattaJack31 Paddleboard Race, Head of the Hooch Rowing Regatta, along with great festivals andmarkets like the Moon River Festival, 3 Sisters Bluegrass Festival, multiple brewers’ festivals,Wine Over Water, Rock City’s Rocktoberfest and the world-class Chattanooga Motorcar Festival. The busy outdoor dining options along sidewalk patios or on rooftop bars, reverberate with the excitement of college football crowds, and outdoor enthusiasts take to the rivers, trails, roads, and rocks. Less than six miles fromdowntown Lookout Mountain changes color from top to bottom as the evening temperatures begin to dip. A trip up Lookout is well worth it this time of year. The views from the mountain at Rock City, Ruby Falls, and the Incline Railway are nothing less than spectacular. Be sure and check out the vistas fromPoint Park or Sunset Rock as well. Chattanooga has been blessed with scenic mountains and rolling ridges, picturesque valleys, with the meandering Tennessee River, and her tributaries. This unique landscape provides hundreds of miles of outdoor activities including hiking, biking, climbing, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, whitewater rafting andmore. Looking for the ultimate view of fall foliage? Try hang gliding, paragliding, or skydiving on this trip. All these activities are withinminutes of Downtown. In addition to a growing and thriving restaurant foodscape, Chattanooga has developed quite a reputation for an excellent, creative, and tasty craft brewery scene. Visiting beer enthusiasts have given our area brewer masters highmarks and even compared their wares to those found in Boston, Asheville, Lexington, Boulder, and Portland. With twelve breweries and counting, there is something for everyone’s pallet. Give our brews a try while you are in town.We will probably amaze you. The Downtown area is easily accessible for visitors. The compact footprint is walkable frommost hotels, or you can jump on the free electric shuttle with stops every few blocks. A bike rental is a great option, too. Check out the several trendy neighborhood districts such as the Northshore, Riverfront, Southside, andWest Village. Each has its’ own character and vibe.

RUBY FALLS AUTUMN ADVENTURE AWAITS ON LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN
F all is an amazing time of year in Chattanooga when the Scenic City is ablaze in its autumn splendor, sweater weather is just around the corner and fall-inspired treats are on everyone’s mind. While the thermometer may linger on summer temperatures longer than we would like, there’s a place in Chattanooga where sweaters are always appropriate. With a year-round forecast of 60 degrees, Ruby Falls is a perfect destination for a fall outing. The journey begins as you descend 260 feet by elevator deep inside Lookout Mountain to explore the cavern trail on a guided walk to see the tallest and deepest underground waterfall open to the public in the United States. Ruby Falls offers multiple cave adventures. For those looking for a faster-paced option, the Cave Walk features a guided express walk to the waterfall in a large group format with a general over view of the cave’s history, a breathtaking lightshow at the thun dering, underground waterfall and ancient geological formations along the narrow cavern trail. The Gentle Walking Tour is a smaller group cave tour with a relaxed pace designed for history-loving explorers. Senior-level guides lead this early-access tour that includes extra time at the waterfall after the lightshow, historical and geological content and plenty of time for guides to answer questions along the way. If your thirst for adventure runs deep, the Lantern Tour will hit
the spot. Rock formations and shadows take on intriguing dimen sions as you explore the cavern and waterfall lit only by hand-held lanterns. The tour features a smaller group size and laid-back pace. Lantern Tours are very popular and often sell out weeks in advance. Keep in mind, if you want to take your kids on a Lantern Tour, they must be at least 5 years old. Breathtaking views at Ruby Falls are not only found under ground but also high atop Lookout Mountain Tower, where panoramic scenes of the Tennessee River and Cumberland Plateau are on display. The birds-eye view provides a perfect spot to take in the changing colors of the season. With the region’s only color blind correcting viewfinder, Blue Heron Overlook is another great place to see the sights. Both the tower and overlook are included with Ruby Falls tickets. To fuel your fall adventure, dine at the Castle Café located in historic Ruby Falls Castle, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner and local beer on tap. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the castle was built in 1929 as a grand entrance for cave explorers and venue for social gatherings. The iconic landmark was constructed from limestone unearthed during excavation of the elevator shaft. Visit RubyFalls.com to plan your trip and purchase tickets for your Lookout Mountain autumn excursion!

Wings Over Water 3D The majesty of wetlands birds
Wings Over Water tells the stories of three species that spend these warmmonths feeding, mating and raising their young in wetlands: majestic Sandhill Cranes, instantly-recognizable Mallard Ducks and diminutive YellowWarblers. All three of these featured species can be seen in Tennessee. That’s why the TennesseeWildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has chosen to partner with the Tennessee Aquarium to bring this film to Chattanooga. “We hope this film inspires families to explore nature and seek out watchable wildlife throughout the year,” says TWRA Executive Director Jason Maxedon. “Our state offers a richly diverse landscape perfect for more than 140 species of waterbirds and other wildlife that thrive in their Tennessee habitats or pass through as they migrate across the country.” Audiences will be amazed by the cinematography inWings Over Water. With incredible slow-motion drone footage that follows cranes and warblers in flight, viewers will feel like they’re soaring through the skies alongside their feathered companions.
F ive months before Sandhill Cranes arrive in East Tennessee along their winter migratory route, viewers at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3DTheater will get a chance to see them up close and on an epic scale in brilliant 3D footage on Chattanooga’s biggest screen.
Wings Over Water 3D and its Oscar-nominated narrator Michael Keaton take viewers into North Ameri ca’s heartland to fly alongside the birds inhabiting the continent’s unique and majestic prairie wetlands as they navigate these “water highways.”
The film’s stunning sequences bring the inhabitants of these freshwater oases into stark focus at a time when these vital ecosystems are in peril. More than 1 billion people worldwide depend on wetlands for their livelihoods, and the habitats filter runoff from ag riculture to help ensure that drinking
Prairie wetlands are unique to the North American continent and span five U.S. states and 3 Canadian provinc es, where they make up an area larger than the state of Texas.
