You can purchase wolf- and wildlife-themed souve nirs and gifts that bene fi t the conservation efforts at the Center. The California Wolf Center sanctuary is open for visits and is located near the KQ Campground on Highway 79. Mine Tours and More And if Julian’s gold mining history still lures you, visit the Eagle and High Peaks Mine in central Julian. Open to guided tours, you’ll learn about gold’s geology and how it is formed and mined, as well as what equip ment and tools are needed for mining and processing gold. You’ll see the old stamp mills and travel the mine’s tunnels to see veins of gold and the mine’s historic imple ments and machinery. The site’s gift shop contains many special items featuring gold and gold leaf, minerals and ore, books, jewelry and other treats for collectors and would-be miners. The tour also includes learning how to pan for gold. (The tunnels and stairs in the mine are not fully accessible to handicapped visitors or mobility scooters.) The mine is located close to Julian’s main street, at C Street and Old Miners Trail. It is open daily,
