Why Voting is More Important than Ever

the time to remember your civic responsibil ities: for it is because of our freedoms that we all have the ability to travel across this great country. Yet, sadly, it is estimated that only half of the eligible voters actually voted in the last election cycle. If you have recently changed your domicile, one of the recommendations is to ensure that you update your voter registration card to your new home address. Not only does this provide further support of your new domicile, but it also gives you a voice in protecting your rights moving forward. Thus, I encourage you to take a moment to ensure your voter information is up-to-date. A vivid reminder of the need for civic engagement is a few of the laws that were proposed in both the Texas and South Dakota legislatures this year. If passed, some of these laws would have had inad vertent and disproportional impacts on the voting rights of full-time RVers, while other proposed laws would have had other adverse impacts on RVers. Fortunately, the most egregious laws did not move forward in either state. However, if RVers are not voting and providing a voice, then politicians may be reluctant to even consider their concerns when these issues and legislative matters arise. Thankfully, the Escapees

One of the great bene fi ts that some Americans take for grant ed is the ability and the right to openly declare frustrations, propose alternative ideas in a public forum and have an active role in the election of its leaders. This past year should be a stark reminder that across the globe these rights are not universally recognized. In other countries, public dissent is often extin guished immediately, and some times, by violent means. While Americans do not agree on all things (and never have), one thing we should cling to is the ability to voice our opinions and have input on who our leaders will be. O ne of our fundamental rights is the right to vote on those indi vidual leaders at the municipal, county, state and federal level who implement policies and laws that effect our everyday lives.
