Dusty RV Interior I was reading in the July August 2022 magazine about preventing dust from getting into a motorhome/ trailer. I had a motorhome with roof fans that could be reversed, creating a positive pressure inside my coach and keeping the dust from coming in. Jack Miltimore
Villa was too large to fi t in our camper bathroom. This brand is used in quite few off-grid homes and has some nice eatures. None of that mattered since t wouldn’t fi t. Nature’s Head or Air Head for various reasons. I eventually discovered the C-Head toilet that is popular with marine folks. The C-Head is a urine diverting, composting system toilet. It uses their fi ve-gallon solid waste collection bucket. You can order a C-Head as a true composting toilet with a crank to stir the solids and composting medium or order it without the crank. Without the crank, you have an attractive bucket toilet and urine collection system. The C-Head looks nice and was just what we needed. We ordered the C-Head without the crank but did order the Bottom Exit Kit which directs urine straight into our black tank through the existing toilet drain line in the fl oor. We chose to use two trash bags in the bucket and just pull one out and dispose of it rather than dealing with the compost ing version. Hands down, this is amazingly easy. They offer the C-Head that sends the urine into a one-gallon milk jug rather than the black tank if you prefer. This choice is used in tiny homes and remote cabins, etc. This is what we ordered : • C-Head Basic Model in Matte White • No Front Window There are a lot of options on what to add to the solids bucket to reduce smell, such as a cup of scented composting medium, a half scoop of Happy Camper or even a shot of Febreze all seem to work. Keeping the solids and liquids separate helps a lot! Our current camper has two gray tanks, with a combined 75-gallon capac ity, and a 43-gallon black tank. I installed an external Valterra T58 valve on the sewer line to maximize our gray-tank capacity. I con fi rm that the Valterra valve is closed, then open the gray tank valves and the black-tank valve, which equalizes all three tanks, giving us 118-gallon gray tank capacity. Our black tank no longer has any solids so now it becomes a third gray tank. our solids "trash" bag every few days. Our new setup allows us to go much longer before having to visit a dump station. This has been a game changer. The Valterra valve is nice for those times you don’t have a sewer connection even if you aren’t using a composting toilet and have two or more gray tanks. Most of the time the gray tanks don’t fi ll at the same rate. If you have a single sewer line you dump from, you can close the Valterra valve and open your gray tank valves. The liquid will equalize between the tanks and may get you a few more days before dumping. If you have full hook-ups, then you’re all set anyway. One note to the men, standing may result in splatter, therefore the manufacturers recommend that men sit down to pee. Gary W. Blair #140012
