Final Journeys Farewell to our Escapees Friends

CARTWRIGHT, CHARLES (CHIP) #66644—FEBRUARY 3, 2023 : (Daisy, 65 Table Rock Drive, Holiday Island, AR 72631) Chip, age 74, died suddenly following a cardiopulmonary arrest. Chip served in the Air Force. Then his career was in the U.S. Forest Service, where he was the fi rst African American District Ranger in 1979, Forest Supervisor in 1988, and in 1994 Regional Forester (responsible for one of the nine U.S. regions). After retiring, Chip became a full-time RVer and joined the Escapees in 2000. We met in 2010 on the dance fl oor at Chip’s 40-year class reunion at Virginia Tech (where I was a faculty member) and were married in 2012. Since then, we have danced our way across the continent, traveling in our truck camper in 49 states (all except Hawaii), 10 of the 13 Canadian provinces and territories, and three Mexican states (with Chapter 8, Mexican Connection), a total of 135,642 miles. Until the Covid 19 pandemic, we had spent more nights in our truck camper than in our house in Arkansas and about the same number as in our winter home in Texas. We enjoyed attending several Escapades, making many new friends and enjoying time with those we knew from previous adventures. Chip’s spirit lives on in the hearts of the many people with whom he shared a caring relationship. ED, BOB #7568–JANUARY 30, 2023: Bob died at age 85 in January, preceded by his wife, Viva Lee, at 82, in 2020, after 60 years of marriage. Bob spent 27 years in the Army and helped develop GPS. They joined Escapees as lifetime members in 1987. Bob compiled, updated and distributed the “Day's End” listings for 20 years. At Escapades, they were greeters, helped park rigs and conducted Big truck and Genealogy seminars. Together they wrote six genealogy books now at The Family History Museum in Salt Lake City. They owned lots at North Ranch Escapees park, loved NASCAR and riding their ATV. (Reported by daughter Susan Dowdy.) KRUTY, EDWARD #77117–JANUARY 29, 2023: (Sandy, 30629 Sun Rider Way, PO Box 902, Congress, AZ 85332) We were full-time RVers for several years before putting down roots, in 2007, at North Ranch, in Congress, Arizona. We still traveled several months each year to 49 of the 50 states. Ed was very active with Escapees, getting involved with Escapades and HOPs and serving as a VCR (Volunteer Club Representative) for many years. He made friends at every event and on the road when we traveled. LUTHER, CHARLOTTE #75111—MARCH 15, 2023 : (Burt, 4049 Onondaca Blvd., Camillus, NY 13031) Died peacefully in Hope Health Care, Cape Coral, Florida. We appreciate noti fi cation of the deceased by caring friends; however, if possible, please obtain permission from a spouse or family member before submitting a notice for publication.
