Escapees March-April 2024
For those who travel, whether it’s full-time or part-time, the world of taxes can get complicated. However, it doesn’t have to be out of reach. Let’s break down the common questions and struggles so you can understand taxes when you RV. State taxes—do you owe them? The fi rst thing to consider is whether you still have ties to a state with income tax. Will you keep your home and rent it? Do you own rental property? Do you have income from a speci fi c state like camp-hosting or work-camping? All of these things will impact your taxes and whether or not you will need to fi le a state tax return. If you plan to RV full-time the best option for cutting ties with a state is to move your domicile to a tax-free state like Texas, South Dakota or Florida. This will help reduce your tax liability. If you only RV part-time or just on weekends, then it’s probably not possible to cut state ties. As long as you’re aware of your obligation, then it shouldn’t be a problem. ax Queen By HEATHER RYAN #140561
