SKP Stops
boutique clothing, unusual and hard-to-find gift items, and design ideas. Across the street is Simply Irresistible, a gift, design and furniture store filled to the brim with an amazing array of items. The showroom is huge. Allow at least an hour to truly enjoy this store. Another trolley stop is within two blocks of Waco’s historic and famous Dr Pepper Museum and the Free Enterprise Institute. It all began at Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store where Charles Alderton, a young pharmacist working at Morrison’s store, invented the famous drink. In addition to filling prescriptions, he enjoyed serving carbonated drinks at the soda fountain. Housed in the 1906 Artesian Manufacturing and Bottling Company building, the museum chronicles young Alderton and his flavor experiments. There are three floors of exhibits showcasing Dr Pepper history,
early bottling equipment and branding. Guests can take a self-guided tour. Guided tours are available for groups of 10 or more who have booked their tour at least a week in advance (254-757-1025). A well-stocked gift shop and a sample of the famous beverage end the tour. For the return trip aboard the trolley, we pass several hotels, restaurants and shops before arriving back at the Magnolia Market. For any fan of HGTV, shopping and fun dining, Waco’s new focus is perfect for a fun getaway! If you go: Due to popular demand, the Waco Convention & Visitors Bureau has created the Magnolia Trail, which highlights many of the businesses and homes featured on the popular television show.
