If you drive or pull your RV, you most like ly have batteries somewhere that need regular maintenance to keep them in optimal performance. All batteries need maintenance. When we think of battery maintenance, everyone thinks about the traditional lead-acid type. These batteries do require the most maintenance. Howev er, many of today’s RVs are being equipped with Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries or lithium-ion batteries which are virtually maintenance free. B ut there are a few maintenance procedures that are required for all battery types. This includes making sure all battery connections are tight. With the RV rocking and rolling down the road, the battery cables can become loose. While you are ensuring the cables are tight, look at the batteries and inspect for damage. This could include swelling, punc

tures or leaks. If any damage is detected, discontinue use of the batteries and replace them immediately, disposing of them properly. Another area where RVers can ruin batteries is by not using the correct charger for the type batteries that you have in your RV. All the different battery types require a different charging pro fi le. So, if you are switching from lead-acid to lithium batteries, you may need to repro gram the battery charger or change it to the correct battery type. Taking care of your batteries will ensure that they will be charged and ready to provide you with power when needed.
