Final Journeys Farewell to our Escapees Friends

ERVIN, JAN #94601—NOVEMBER 7, 2019 : (Don, 245 Rainbow Dr. #14525 Livingston TX 77399-2045) After a long battle with breast cancer, Jan headed west, looking forward to her journey. She left behind a grieving husband of over 60 years, her dog, Angel, and many family members and friends. Although we all miss her, we know she is now without pain and enjoying her fl ight, knowing all love her. GRISWOLD, BILL “GRIZZLY”—SEPTEMBER 7, 2022 : (Alice, 112 Rainbow Dr., PMB #1264, Livingston, TX 77399-1012) Grizzly died at the age of 94. We were full-time RVers and lifetime Escapees. We attended a few Escapades in our earlier years. We also enjoyed dining with Joe and Kay Peterson at one of the early dinners in the clubhouse and our weekly club lunches in Arizona during the winters there. We were thankful for the Care Center during our recovery after an RV accident years ago. Hopefully, I will be able to take some shorter trips soon. HUNTER, GENE #53835—FEBRUARY 2, 2023 : (Patti, 53 Private Rd. 5248, Hondo, TX 78861) Gene died from Parkinson’s disease. He was a Korean War veteran. We joined Escapees in 1998 after retiring from the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. We belonged to the NOMADS volunteer group for 12 years and loved traveling and doing volunteer work. We have been members of the Lone Star Corral SKP Co-Op since 2004. We continued to travel until 2021. I will continue to live at the Lone Star Corral. MCDONALD, DENNIS #64400—NOVEMBER 22, 2022 : (Corkie, 22241 Nisqually Rd, #71, Apple Valley, CA 92308) After a long battle with diabetes that led to kidney failure, Dennis fi nally succumbed to cancer at home. We joined Escapees in 2000 and eventually became lifetime members. We attended many Escapades, both East and West Coast, and a few Fun Days, Including Kamloops, British Columbia and Great Falls, Montana. We volunteered for food service at several Escapades and served as VCRs for several years. Dennis was a member of the Elks and Woodcarvers on Wheels BoFs. We came off the road in 2015, but Dennis continued wood carving and joined a woodworkers group. He had friends worldwide with all the traveling in his work life and around the U.S. He stayed in touch with many of them until the end. He now rests in peace. PLITE, EUGENE #91525—MARCH 9, 2023 : Gene died after a seven-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was in East Jordan, Michigan, surrounded by his family and long-time companion, Peggy Johnson. Gene was an avid RVer. He and Peggy had many happy adventures in the “Bird” fi fth wheel cruising nationwide. Gene loved to help people and volunteered several times at Escapees Care Center. He was an RV mentor to many. Gene stated that he met many wonderful Escapees who became lifelong friends.
