Stay Cool as a Cucumber This Summer
spend a long, lazy afternoon. In my world on the road, every summer day is an opportu nity for a late-afternoon-cold-food-happy hour-potluck, brimming with friends and neighbors and boasting an abundant spread of fresh summer fl avors. Science and Style A beautiful setting, a posse of pals and a delicious communal dinner are the social part of this summer happening, but there’s science involved, too. Did you know that certain foods can have a cooling effect on the body? Since hydration is especially important on hot days, foods that contain a lot of water such as cucumbers, tomatoes, radishes, leafy greens and cilantro are ideal. Mints, thanks to their menthol, are natural coolers.
If it’s not already here, it’s com ing. You can count on it. The dog days of summer. You know what I’m talking about, days that are made for ice-cold, top-shelf gin and tonics, a swimming pool and a good book. The last thing you want to do is cook. I completely understand. B ut, just because it’s sweltering doesn’t mean you don’t want to enjoy your site and your friends. After all, our Escapees lifestyle is made for convivial gatherings, preferably around food, drink and good old-fashioned chit-chat. This is one of my favorite ways to
