Hotel Château du Grand-Lucé, The Baron’s Suite LE GRAND-LUCÉ, FRANCE There are simply too many superlatives to describe this grand hotel, but here goes: It was first built in 1764 by architect Mathieu de Bayeux as a private residence for Baron Jacques Pineau de Viennay and was opened as a hotel in 2019 to great fanfare; it was quickly lauded as one of the world’s most lavish hotels. The one-bedroom, 2,120-sq-ft Baron’s Suite is a sumptuous abode with lofty 17-ft ceilings, a sitting room (The Salon Chinois), a library filled with a collection of French literature, three private entrances (including one entrance directly from the pretty west garden) and a dining room. Every little detail is considered, from the gilded art collection to the welcome basket with wine from the Loire Valley and produce from the hotel’s garden. Samantha Coles Best feature The Salon Chinois with Chinoiserie-style walls painted by Jean-Baptiste Pillement From $8,890 per night.
