Diemme footwear You only need look at the client list of Calzaturificio Diemme to appreciate its unique crossover between heavy-duty footwear and the luxury market. From its base at Onè di Fonte in the shadow of the Italian Dolomites, it stands apart as a specialist boot and shoe manufacturer for the trekking, mountaineering and safety industries, while continuing to lend its expertise to couture labels such as Maison Martin Margiela, Bottega Veneta and Chanel. Founded in 1992 by brothers Dennis and Maico Signor, Diemme’s trademark aesthetic is a handmade hiking boot combining full-grain leather from the tannery at Conceria Emmedue with a slip-resistant Vibram rubber sole and contrast lacing. In 2010, the manufactory established a long-term design collaboration with Norway’s Blender Agency, resulting in edgier, more contemporary styles without compromising on the brand’s utilitarian trademark. A case in point are two looks from the new spring/summer collection: the lighter-weight Marostica Mid (from $339, above) with its non-slip tread, and the ankle-height Wilson (from $389), the latter featuring the kind of decorative “broguing” more typically found on a pair of polished Oxfords. diemmefootwear.com
