The historic Halas boat was built in 1914 and served as a passenger ferry in Istanbul for 65 years. It is the only hotel in Istanbul where guests can actually sleep on the waters of the Bosphorus. The boat is owned by the leading Turkish industrialist Koç family, and was completely refurbished in 2010. In the winter, the boat is docked in İstinye, a residential enclave on the northern end of the Bosphorus that boasts a marina and many restaurants, and functions as a boutique hotel (subject to private functions and cruises). There is a drawing room, dining room and large outdoor area. The largest of its 12 cabins is the Lycian Suite, with a living room decorated with Turkish kilims and items from the Koç family’s Ottoman-inspired Haremlique linen and accessories range, large bath and bedroom. It is possible to rent a few cabins or the entire boat. Taking its name from its location in Istanbul’s most up and coming neighborhood filled with trendy bars, restaurants and galleries, 10 Karaköy is set in an Ottoman-era quarantine hospital for passengers arriving at the nearby docks. Opened in late 2014, this is the first Morgans hotel in the city and its signature restaurant, Rudolf, quickly became the talk of the town. The Penthouse suite consists of a master bedroom whose blue marble bathroom has a freestanding bathtub and skylight, a walk-in closet, and a living/ dining room with a large terrace.
