A spirited song

Tasting an exquisite whisky is like music to our ears. Glenmorangie has taken this concept a step further with its latest expression, Glenmorangie Pride 1974. Steinway Artist Aaron Diehl, graduate of Juilliard, visited the Glenmorangie distillery in Scotland to compose a piece of music inspired by the exceptional single malt. Diehl’s song, Echoes of the Glen of Tranquillity , emulates the notes of the whisky with musical notes of its own. The third and most prestigious in the Pride series so far, Glenmorangie Pride 1974 is crafted from two whiskies, one aged in bourbon casks and the other in Oloroso sherry butts. Matured for 41 years, Glenmorangie’s oldest expression blends rich, salty and spicy aromas for hints of aged balsamic vinegar, salted caramel toffee, oranges and baked apples. The single malt is limited to just 503 crystal decanters, so collectors best move quickly or be left to experience it from the song alone… $9,050, Echoes of the Glen of Tranquillity is available to download at glenmorangie.com

For its sixth Masters of Photography release, The Macallan has partnered with visual virtuoso Steven Klein. Master whisky maker, Bob Dalgarno, interpreted the photographer’s piece to create a whisky with peated notes, limited to only 1,000 bottles worldwide. The expression results from The Macallan’s first ever use of Rioja wine casks, providing flavors of berries, spice and a rare red mahogany color. Housed in a black case, the whisky sits adjacent to one of 10 exclusive signed prints from Klein, as well as custom barware inspired by Spain’s El Celler de Can Roca restaurant. $2,995, inquiries.us@themacallan.com, themacallan.com
