The Casa de Maquinas Residence YUCATAN PENINSULA, MEXICO This 1850s former sisal factory in the Mayan village of Sac Chich has been restored by renowned Mexican architect Salvador Reyes-Rios, who also designed most of the locally crafted wooden furniture. The factory is split into two limestone buildings – Casa Antigua and Casa Nueva, where the largest of the bedrooms has a sunken living area, its own walled garden and plunge pool. There are bold paint colors, antique chandeliers, fabrics collected on the owner’s travels and polished concrete floors. Nestled between the two buildings is an open-air living room and dining pavilion surrounded by ponds. Hammocks are strung up by the pool and a spiral staircase leads to a rooftop deck and stargazing platform. Special amenities Two housekeepers, three gardeners.
