Perhaps the only thing more impressive than the sight of Atlantis the Royal is the level of wealth on parade inside it.” Thea Halstead takes her toddler to InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort and waxes lyrical about the kid-friendly activities (noting that the resort has the kind of kids club that children actually want to go to), and Irenie Forshaw seeks tranquility at the Park Hyatt Kyoto: “The stress of my hectic journey from Tokyo dissipates almost instantly: it’s clear that while inside Park Hyatt Kyoto, it’s almost impossible to feel anything but a sense of calm.” If you’re craving a long jaunt at sea, Miriam Cain looks at the yachts that have the most scene-stealing master suites and owner’s areas — from 377.7-ft Ahpo ’s split-level deck with a fully equipped gym to 163.9-ft Anjelif ’s large master suite with a Jacuzzi, hammam and infrared sauna. Prefer a road trip? Toby Louch checks out a one-of-one Rolls-Royce that pays homage to one of cinema’s great villains, Auric Gold fi nger, with a bespoke iteration of its Phantom Extended. Perhaps you’re wanting to explore at a gentler (yet still uber-luxe) pace — The Britannic Explorer, A Belmond Train, is set to debut in July 2025 meaning there will soon be an entirely new way to see England and Wales. As Belmond’s vice president of trains and cruises, Gary Franklin, puts it: “The Britannic Explorer o ff ers something truly unique; an opportunity to discover the rugged Cornish coastline to Snowdonia’s untamed National Park and the vast expanses of the Lake District like never before.” Samantha Coles Editor samantha.coles@elitetraveler.com

For a small island nation, the Brits aren’t exactly known for exploring their own backyard. While it’s easy to poke fun, anyone who’s braved the bumper to-bumper Cornish commute or spent an evening on a delayed train will understand why so many have opted to fl y farther a fi eld — that is unless they’ve stepped aboard a Belmond train. Known for rede fi ning luxury travel, Belmond has longo ff ered a way to explore Britain in style, with both the British Pullman and the Royal Scotsman hot tickets. Now, with the launch of The Britannic Explorer, A Belmond Train, set to debut in July 2025, there's an entirely new way to see England and Wales, turning the idea of the staycation into a grand adventure. The Britannic Explorer will o ff er a series of three-night itineraries across three stunning routes: the coastlines of Cornwall, the dramatic fells of the Lake District and the rolling hills of Wales. Each journey promises more than just good views from the windows, as passengers have the option to stepo ff and explore the destinations with expertly guided tours of local treasures, including private dinners at the renowned Hauser & Wirth Somerset As Belmond’s vice president of trains and cruises, Gary Franklin, puts it: “The Britannic Explorer o ff ers something truly unique; an opportunity to discover the rugged Cornish coastline to Snowdonia’s untamed National Park and the vast expanses of the Lake District like never before.” Back on board, guests will discover the Britannic Explorer is packed with amenities designed to elevate every moment of the journey. Unwind in the on board wellness suite after a day of exploring, or head to the lively observation car, home to a botanically inspired bar that serves up craft cocktails with stunning views of the countryside. Similarly taking cues from the breathtaking scenery outside, the train’s interiors, designed by London-based studio Albion Nord, are a true re fl ection of Britain’s natural beauty. Each of the 18 cabins is thoughtfully imagined to echo the surrounding scenery, while the three Grand Suites take reference from the hues of indigenous fl owers found in blooming English gardens. Of course, no luxury journey would be complete without unforgettable cuisine, and the Britannic Explorer has brought in culinary heavyweight Simon Rogan to curate the dining experience. Rogan’s menus will showcase the very best of British farm-to-fork dining, with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients re fl ecting each region’s unique fl avors. “For me, true luxury lies in humble ingredients, grown with care, respect for their surroundings, and Design by Ellys Woodhouse elite traveler HOTELS, RESORTS &SPAS2025 16 Gallery, wild swimming in the Lake District or visiting Cornwall’s serene Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens.

Ever-present on all Rolls-Royce models, the Spirit of Ecstasy plays on the film’s plot, too. In the movie, Goldfinger smuggles gold in the panels of his Rolls Royce. Here, the Spirit of Ecstasy is made from solid silver, yet plated in places with 18K gold to look as if there is gold hidden beneath. Inside the vehicle, the flagship feature is a hidden vault created in the center console between the front seats. Here, owners will discover an 18K gold bar in the shape of a Phantom ‘Speedform,’ a replica of the vehicle’s bodywork in a stylized miniature. Inside the glovebox, the quote: “This is gold, Mr Bond. All my life, I have been in love with its color, its brilliance, its divine heaviness,” has been debossed on the inner lid. A further headline feature on the bespoke Phantom is the Furka Pass Gallery, which runs the full width of the front fascia. This is a hand-drawn three dimensional isoline map that depicts the contours of the Furka Pass in Switzerland, the setting for one of the film’s most famous scenes. This feature took over a year to create. “Bringing Phantom Goldfinger into being was one of the Bespoke Collective’s greatest creative journeys to date,” said Nick Rhodes, bespoke designer at Rolls Royce. “The elegant and whimsical features that reference the film’s most memorable moments are an exquisite demonstration of the power of bespoke in adding a new chapter to an existing story.” rolls-roycemotorcars.com

Rolls-Royce has paid homage to one of cinema’s great villains, Auric Goldfinger, with a bespoke iteration of its Phantom Extended. Is winemaking an art or a science? It’s a question that has hung over the profession with a weight like grapes in late harvest. When oenophiles start to discuss the pH of the soil, its moisture content or storage temperatures, you might be tempted to reach for a lab coat and protective goggles. It’s not a question, however, that seems to concern Vincent Chaperon. For the chef de cave at Dom Pérignon, the answer is conclusive: “Wine is art. It’s about nature, wine is about craftsmanship. To be the embodiment of an aesthetic vision and an emotion; that’s the border between craft and art.”
foundation of Dom Pérignon is built on the knowledge (and yeast) first discovered by the monk after whom the eponymous brand is named. And it’s this shared generational wisdom —plus working in the industry since the age of 21 — that Chaperon pulls upon to take the necessary risks in his craft; to allow the confidence to make decisions that have no real mathematical reason. Trying to navigate that distinction is all part of the chef de cave’s role. Since the maison only releases vintages with grapes harvested in a single year, there’s always an element of unpredictability when you are at the behest of nature.

was commemorated with an extravagant evening at Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill’s iconic La Fábrica, where Catalonian chef Albert Adrià, along with Niko Romito, served up a menu inspired by the tactility of the two newly unveiled vintages: Dom Pérignon Vintage 2015 and Dom Pérignon Vintage 2006 Plénitude 2. The result of patience, precision and practice, after an initial maturation of 15 years, it took an additional seven for Dom Pérignon Vintage 2006 to reach Plénitude 2. That time has allowed the initial sweetness of Vintage 2006 to be elevated into a more streamlined version of itself, a saline
“There’s always a balance between mastery and the unknown,” Chaperon ruminates. “But there is a matter of intuition, of skills and of repetition. That there is a moment where the intelligence of the body speaks and there is something more profound, mysterious, emotional, which is speaking in what youdo.” Inviting the world to understand this creative process, in July 2024, Chaperon and Dom Pérignon gathered journalists, artists, sommeliers and esteemed friends of the house to Barcelona for Révélations 2024. As the fourth iteration of Dom Pérignon’s annual rendezvous, Révélations 2024
bitterness that’s balanced by Dom Pérignon’s inherent subtlety and delicacy. It was Chaperon’s predecessor, Richard Geoffroy, who observed that vintages go through three distinct moments: “Three moments where they were showing this plentitude of deep expression. Three moments when they were different; the same wine but doing something different.” As he explains, a vintage is considered the first Plénitude, generally observed after six to 10 years; Plénitude 2 after 12 to 20 years; and the final Plénitude reached after that. “You are in a tension between the maturity you feel and the wine’s maturity; with that toastiness, the creaminess, the umami, but still so precise or fresh,” is how Chaperon describes it. “It’s a moment when the wine is singing higher, with more intensity, like the peak of energy and vibrancy which you have observed in [Dom Pérignon Vintage] 2006 Plénitude 2.” From the very premise of Révélations 2024, down to the way Chaperon describes each and every glass of Dom Pérignon esteemed vintages, you would expect the chef de cave to have grown up surrounded by artists or philosophers. Instead, Chaperon comes from an agricultural family, with his grandmother running the family vineyard in Bordeaux. “My family was selling and making wine from the 15th century, so really my DNA is from thewine.” Perhaps it’s no surprise that Chaperon taps into this artistic affiliation to describe the maison’s latest vintage release, Dom Pérignon Vintage 2015. There are the expected, traditional tasting notes — “flesh of fresh peach and nectarine,” which then “envelop into the bitter notes of citrus and gentian” — but Chaperon also brings in visual and abstract reference points: “I was thinking back to the photos of [Hiroshi] Sugimoto, the Japanese photographer, and when I drank and I was preparing to send 2015 out, I was describing an unwavering presence, a presence with authority but without aggressivity. With Sugimoto’s photography, black and white photos of the horizon of the sea […] there was a density and there’s an intensity, but everything is appeasing. 2015 is about that; it’s present, it’s strong, but appeasing.” Reaching this point of winemaking’s artistic infraction has been one of Chaperon’s goals at Dom Pérignon: “It’s one of my deep dreams to really help fine wine stay at this place, as it has always been, in the core of human beings since the start of civilization,” he muses. “I’m not here to keep Dom Pérignon as it is, as it was, as it’s not, but I’m going to develop in its style, of the tradition, of the ‘Trace’. Because that ‘Trace’ is alive, but that means the embodiment is important to bring your own feelings and emotion.” domperignon.com

The Cask Curation Series – Port Edition
Wine & Spirits by Bethany Whymark
Cask curation
The land around Porto is burning when we arrive. Forest fires, fueled by four months of drought, are raging to the east and smoke billows over the city toward the Atlantic Ocean. We’re here to see Symington Family Estates, a foremost name in Portugal’s port industry. Chief marketing officer and sustainability lead Rob Symington discusses the impact of the fires over lunch at the company’s Bomfim 1896 Pedro Lemos restaurant in Pinhão. He says rising global temperatures play a part in their frequency, noting that the valley recorded a temperature of 118°F in 2023. The changing climate presents challenges, but Symington is an eco-conscious business. In 2019 it became the first Portuguese drinks company to attain B Corp accreditation, indicating high standards of environmental and social sustainability. It’s also a business that understands the value of long-term thinking. Symington vines take roughly five years to start producing fruit considered suitable for winemaking. The mountainous terrain renders mechanical pickers almost inviable, meaning 96% of grapes are still hand-harvested. The cellar for its most highly prized brand, Graham’s, contains some of the world’s oldest bottles of port. Taking time to ensure quality makes Symington a perfect partner for another sector of the beverage alcohol industry: Scotch whisky. There is only one single malt whisky producer — not just in Scotland, but globally — that has access to Graham’s port casks: The Dalmore. Founded in 1839 by adventuring merchant Alexander Matheson, the distillery near Alness in the Highlands was taken over by descendants of Clan Mackenzie in 1867. Shortly after, it began experimenting with multi-cask maturation — more than a century before the practice would hit the Scotch mainstream. The Dalmore has been sourcing casks from Graham’s since master distiller Richard Paterson first visited its cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia in the 1970s. The brands are showcasing their unparalleled maturation expertise in a new collaboration: the Cask Curation Series – Port Edition. It comprises three single malts, aged 27, 30 and 43 years, finished in exceptional (and exceptionally rare) Graham’s single-harvest tawny port casks dating from 1997, 1994 and 1952. The trio will be sold together, presented in bespoke leather carry cases in a Graham’s-inspired shade of teal. Only 150 sets will be available globally. It is the second of four releases in the Cask Curation Series and follows the Sherry Edition, launched in 2023 in partnership with The Dalmore’s exclusive sherry cask supplier Gonzáles Byass.

through. Classic Dalmore notes of chocolate and orange are complemented by rich red fruit, plump raisin, warming spice and nuttiness. For The Dalmore and Graham’s, this collection celebrates a shared ethos that holds quality paramount, the harmonious pairing of port and whisky symbolic of their long-standing bond. thedalmore.com
During an exclusive launch event for the Port Edition at the Graham’s 1890 Lodge in Gaia, we had the chance to sample the ports in question — including the last remaining bottle of the 1952 vintage — before The Dalmore team unveiled the whiskies. Although these spirits only rested briefly in the port casks (the 27 Year Old and 30 Year Old for two years, the 43 Year Old for three), the wines’ characters shine

With what even locals agree to be the island of Mahé’s most beautiful beach (according to my taxi driver, at least) — a picture-perfect, white-sanded, palm-tree fringed stunner of a cove — Four Seasons Resort Seychelles is, by all definitions, paradise. What then, do you do when a day-long downpour descends and renders the beach less than appealing? Head to the spa, of course. The entire resort is subtly nestled into the steeply sloped hillside, with clusters of native takamaka trees helping each of the 62 private villas (and 27 residences) hide in the dense foliage — privacy is key, after all. The Le Syel Spa sits at the very top of this hillside, above those dotted suites and villas, affording brilliant views of the La Petite Anse Bay below and the disappearing horizon beyond. (Top tip: Book an evening treatment for the best sunsets — they dazzle even on rainy days and you can head to the spa’s rooftop for a post-massage glass of champagne.) The spa’s relaxing waiting area makes the absolute most out of these commanding vistas with floor-to ceiling glass walls on three walls; arrive early for a few quiet moments to lap up those views. Unlike a conventional spa, the eight treatment suites are poised separately from the main reception, accessed via winding paths shadowed by bursts of brazenly bright hibiscus flowers. Each of the suites are enormous, easily swamping the size of my apartment back home — every one has its own changing room, a private spa bathroom with a huge bathtub open to the views and a roomy treatment room with fully retractable windows. Ask to have the windows open (if weather allows) for a dose of that ocean breeze and the soundtrack of crashing waves. No generic spa music needed here. The spa makes a real effort to connect with the Seychellois landscape and products used are a celebration of the surrounding flora — most notably

For me though, the marker of a truly special spa experience are the extra touches not listed in the treatment menu. At Le Syel Spa, that came in the form of ten soothing post-massage minutes of gentle hairbrushing that transported me back to childhood, with my sea-salt covered tresses nimbly twisted into a French braid and adorned with a crimson Hibiscus flower. fourseasons.com
the coco de mer. A rare tree and nut species native to this part of the world, the coco de mer has long been said to possess mythical, magical qualities, with its nourishing benefits put to use in many of Le Syel Spa’s services. (So special is the plant to the region, the hotel’s culinary team even whip up indulgent chocolate versions of the *ahem* interestingly shaped nut — I’ll let you Google that one.) Treatments are diverse, and call on a wide array of international influences: Traditional Thai massage techniques are heavily called on to ease out stubborn muscle knots and aches, while far more modern smartphone-enhanced sleep therapies have recently

1 REEF RESTORATION Doing good makes us feel good. For a dose of serotonin, book a coral workshop and snorkeling session with Wise Oceans, whose base is at the far end of the Petite Anse beach. Resident marine biologist Pip will help you restore pieces of damaged coral, before taking them out to the cultivated reef around 300 ft from the shore. As with the spa, this makes for a great rainy day activity — visibility might be a bit more limited, but there’s still plenty to see below the surface. wiseoceans.com
2 SUNRISE HIKING While sunsets from the spa (or anywhere in the resort, really) are spectacular, make a special e ff ort to wake up in the early hours of the morning for a hike to the highest point of the mountain to watch the sunrise. It’s on the strenuous side, but you’ll feel all the more deserving of a fl oating breakfast (and a glass of champagne) in your private pool afterward. Save this one for a fairer weather forecast — heavy rainfall can make the trail slippy and trickier to navigate.

The hotel’s top key is the Riverhouse Suite, which sprawls over 2,000 sq ft and features two king-size bedrooms, each with its own bathroom (including a tub!). Clearly intended for socializing, the suite has an expansive living area that includes plenty of scattered seating and dining space for 10. 1 HOTEL BROOKLYN BRIDGE NEWYORK Despite opening way back in 2017 (when it became the eco-minded hotel brand’s second New York City property), 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge still retains that air of newness. Maybe it’s the cool, industrial-style architecture or the earthy greenery- fi lled fi nishes; or maybe even the laid-back service style — whatever it is, something has kept 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge at the top of its game, even in the city that never sleeps. Occupying a coveted patch of waterfront real estate, just behind Brooklyn Bridge Park in a neat area that bridges the brownstones of Brooklyn Heights and the still-trendy Dumbo, the hotel o ff ers what few in NYC can: breathing space. Instead of being hemmed in by other buildings, it’s an open stretch over the water beyond — something you’ll be grateful for after a few nights in the city. STAY By NYC standards, the 195 guest rooms and suites at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge feel spacious, with the smallest clocking in at 225 sq ft, every inch of which is smartly utilized. Most have views of the Brooklyn Bridge but not all — book carefully if you want to gaze out at that jaw-dropping skyline scene. In-room amenities are lovely: Bamford bathroom products pamper; the mini-bar feels extra premium with Clase Azul tequila and locally made snacks; the jersey robes are some of the nicest I’ve come across; and the in-room yoga mat was an unexpected extra. It should be noted that the bathrooms are not… discreet, to put it politely. Most people will have no qualms with
