Fishing boats in the harbor The fishing industry has always been important to Iceland, both as a food source and a major export. Bartender at Nora Magasin This is a buzzy bar in the center of Reykjavík (below), popular with both locals and tourists. Their happy hour little bites include pan fried ling – one of the more palatable traditional Icelandic dishes.

MAR Restaurant This restaurant (right) enjoys a great location in the old harbor area. The menu shows off the best of local fish, seafood and lamb. The artwork on the walls, by local graphic designer, Siggi Odds, can be bought at nearby designer shop Mýrin.

Cyclists by Hallgrímskirkja Here we can see how church’s architect, Guðjón Samuélsson, wanted to reflect the basalt lava flows of the Icelandic landscape. Although Reykjavík is not known as an especially bike-friendly city, an organized bike tour is a good way to see the sights.
