The background of the haute horlogerie watch is a lively and colorful rendition of the hummingbird using a plique-à-jour enameling process that dates back 1,500 years. It is akin to a miniature stained-glass window on the wrist. Each section of translucent enamel is outlined in gold and then filled in by hand and fired multiple times.
