“The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was written solely to pleasure the children of today. It aspires to being a modernized fairy tale, in which the wonderment and joy are retained and the heartaches and nightmares are left out .” - L. Frank Baum, 1900 - The Wonderful Wizard of Oz The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is one of the best-known stories in American literature. Author L. Frank Baum spent summers vacationing at Macatawa Park on the shores of Lake Michigan. This area inspired Baum to write the classic novel, and his great grandson believes parts of the timeless tale were written while staying at his family’s cottage, “The Sign of the Goose.” We invite you to celebrate the seasonal book and its characters at a f ree outdoor exhibit just a short distance f rom the author’s cottage and steps f rom downtown.
