It may have taken a bit more than meets the eye, to become a team member of the Desert Mirage High School wrestlers and keep up with the standards, but not impossible. Freshman Omar Barajas knew all about it when he said, "Maintaining and losing weight in a single day is part of the challenges of being a wrestler." And every person on the team agreed that both the feelings they got walking out to the matches and walking away at the end was ever so satisfying. Despite having been a small team and having less wrestlers than many schools that did not prove a hindrance. On one particular occasion when up against Yucca Valley High School, our girl's team Captain Senior Andrea Oceguera recognized the team's strength and reminded her teammates, ''We will show them how strong we are on the mats. Ladies give it your best!" The day was memorable with feats and lessons for all DMHS wrestlers. For instance, Sophomore Liliana Talavera who quickly found her opponent's weakness and triumphantly pinned her giving DM six points. The audience and her teammates all watch and cheered for her success.

Now its was time for our boys matches, Julio being our first male wrestler as he puts himself in neutral position and shakes his opponent's hand. As the match starts his opponent tried to pin him however with the support his teammates Julio stood up. As he stood up he flips grab the Yucca Valley wrestler leg as he's found a way to pin the opposite team giving a six points to DM. As minutes passed by , it was Misael Renteria(10th) turn as he walked to the mat with confidences pinning Yucca Valley player in 53 seconds during the first round of his match. Ours wrestlers both girls and boys took a loss however they reflected on their mistakes. "Loses are tempering and victories are forever" said Sophomore Ricardo Cortes. defeated his opponent by employing Coach Taboada's advice, and thinking strategically. His teammates recalled that his opponent futilessly attempted to pin him down. However, Ramos stood up and proved his dominance on the mat. The team remembers Julio standing up and then in the blink of an eye flipped grabbed a Yucca Valley wrestler's leg and pinned the opposition. He rendered his team a total of six points. The team recalls that it wasn't only Ramos however who performed amazingly it was also, Sophomore Misael Renteria. Misael walked onto the mat with extra "well-owned," confidence. Effortlessly, he pinned a Yucca Valley wrestler in as little as 53 seconds during the first round of his match. All of our wrestlers learned many lessons this season and in the wise words of, Sophomore Ricardo Cortes. "Loses are temporary and victories are forever."
