Desert Mirage HS 2020

First, Last One

It was an emotional moment for many seniors who were doing what they loved the most for one last time. Gissel Garcia was no exception, this moment made her feel overjoyed because of the insurmountable love and support she received from her dad and her cheer sisters who were with her for her first and last Senior Night supporting her. "Walking with both my parents, but knowing I only had one physically there is what hurt the most. Yet, walking down the lane of raised helmets that the football players raised as a sign of respect was something I really appreciated, and just having the coaches cheering for me is something I will never forget, because it is very difficult wishing I had both of my parents with me. In the beginning of the cheer season I did this all for my mom because I knew she would have been proud of me to be a part of something that I love." Gissel's giant smile showed the happiness and pride she had for being able to walk arm in arm with her dad and listen to the overwhelming warmth of her Ram family. On that day many seniors realized they did everything for the last time. They had arrived at the end of their high school journey. They stopped and thought for just a second. It was last time they shot that winning point, the last time they ran that suicide, the last time they made that serve, and that best of all sports moments, the last time on the bus after the game laughing together with pals that they may or may not ever see again after graduation, on the ride home. Memories we will always cherish. Story by, your fellow senior signing off, Armani Chavez with my first, last time.

Josue Gamboa "Senior night was fun. We had a big home crowd and the school spirit was real for the first time in a while. it was great to see portraits across the gym of my teammates who I’ve played with since my freshman year. It was nice to start well and end well with the team."
