TALK IT LIKE YOU

Designing anything has never been easy, it takes dedication and imagination. Getting featured by a big shoe brand like Vans was dream come true for Junior Ana Karen Quintero . What just started as a suggestion by her friend lead to amazing nation wide recognigtion by the famous shoe brand, Vans. With time on her hands, she was able to design a shoe with an impressive ballet Folklorico woman dancer on it. Ana Karen explained her artistic ability is inherited from her mother and likewise, "My mom has been my inspiration she has always wanted to become someone important in design and fashion. And because of her my future goal is to continue expanding my artwork and study both graphic design and fashion. I would like to one day have a design business with my mother as my right hand. As for my Vans design I wanted to have something that represented not only me but all the beautiful colors that are so prominent in my Latina culture, so I designed my shoe bright and popping." "The woman on my shoe is my interpretation of confidence. I wanted to illustrate that it is alright to be who you really are, and the importance of not ever forgetting where one comes from, no matter the situation. I wanted those who wore the shoe, if they were feeling bad to look down to see the woman and pick themselves up." By being one of the finalists in the Vans Creation Contest Ana Karen demonstrated to the world she certainly has the skills, attitude and potential to conquer any feat she sets her sights on. We hope to see and buy her designs in a near future. Story by: Armando Lopez

Personal Touches

What would have started as a joke suddenly turned into a school viral design and shoe for Misael Renteria. He and his friends created a sandal with his actual face in it and was able to sell a couple of them around the school. After a selfie Misael's friends decided to crop his face into a sandal and sent it to the group chat to get approval. My friends went on custom ink and ordered 12 pairs of them. The first time we all wore them to schoo,l people around school loved the design and wanted a pair too. An order of 12 sandals turned into 30 and even a couple of teachers got in on the fashion.
