The Aztec dancers originally from Mexico city are known for their vibrant colors and flashy outfits. They are originally known as "concheros" and have been incorporated into the Mexican culture for many years. The history of the "concheros" is very long and rich itself. The word "concheros" stems from the christian introduction of a type of guitar known as a concha into the aztec ritual. The act was an attempt from colonial christians to overturn the traditional Aztec rituals and religion. This attempt did not phase the Aztecs as "concheros" believe that fighting ignorance is the way of life. The Aztec dancers of today are a far cry from the original "concheros" but, they manage to keep old traditions of Aztec people alive in a modern society. The dance itself is mesmerizing and overflowing with life and holds huge religious significance. Each routine of the aztec dance reflects the duality of the Aztec culture, with women, the night, the jaguar and the earth on one side and men, the day, the eagle and water on the other, and incorporates many circles into the dance.
