our family expenses." Even kids notice the sacrificed their parents make for them, which in turn motivates them to strive and achieve their goal. Many Desert Mirage students are not satisfied with the bare minimum and do anything in their power to get more experiences, better grades, club memberships, or community service, which will help them prepare for life. "My inspiration are my parents. They push me to do great in school so I can get into a good university. I want to pay back to them for everything they have sacrificed for me." said Junior, Teresa Aquino who among many students at Desert Mirage High is an inspiration to others. Story by Juan Romero.

A role model is a person that someone else looks to as an example to be imitated. Ironically role models themselves may not have though of himself/ herself as a leader, but others will. In other words you have characteristics of a leader, are confident, have the ability to create goals and achieve them, diligent, and amongst other qualities you are kind and able to communicate effectively with others. With that said, when holidays are approaching, love and money are essential. Some students in order to not burden their parents financially take up jobs, to help ease the load on their parents shoulders and contribute monetarily. Hence, instead of expecting gifts they give gifts to their families. Junior Teresa Aquino says, "I decided to go work picking chilies because the holidays are coming up. I wanted to buy gifts for my parents, be more independent to buy my own things, instead of them having to buy for me. Working also allows me to help buy my siblings gifts so my parents can use their money for

Leader

Do not wait for the world to recognize your greatness, live it and let the world catch up to you. Jazmine has been a natural leader in anything she put her mind to. She was the 2020 Valedictorian and excelled on the Varsity Basketball and Track Team. She broke and set multiple high school records. "I have always pushed myself to do better and become a better person, in whole, to reach my full potential. " Senior, Jazmine Gamboa. When a human realizes his littleness his greatness can appear.

Confident

"I have never liked school, I only go because I know it will give me more options and open more opportunities. I thank God my parents always implemented that mindset of I have to work for something to deserve it or how they would tell me "Hay que batallar para merecer" As I have been growing up I decided school was not for me and I do not think of going to college, but rather pursue my passion which is cutting hair. I am 17 years old making money off of cutting hair and I am here to tell you college is not the only way, follow your passion. -Alfredo Zuno Gonzalez AKA; Freddy Fadez

Defining your Life "In all honesty I do see myself as a role model. I might not be the valedictorian but I have acquired 20 college credits which will help me graduate from a university faster. Growing up my experiences made me mature at a young age. My brother would hang around bad people and at times was influenced by them to do wrong doings. As a kid I remember having to miss school to go visit my brother in prison and go to the court houses to translate for my mother. I knew I had to become someone successful to show the world that it is up to oneself to change the future." Senior, Juan Romero
